Mount drive in Windows

If you want to access your personal network drive from outside the university network, e.g., from home, you first need a VPN connection. This is established via eduVPN. You can download the software at lmu.eduvpn.lrz.de (for a detailed description, see the LRZ website).

  • Install eduVPN (from LRZ) and use it to connect to the university network (instructions for VPN client for Windows)
  • In Windows Explorer, select "Map network drive" (right-click on "This PC" and select "Map network drive").
  • Select drive letter (H: or another)
  • Enter path: \\nas.ads.mwn.de\<LRZ ID> [The LRZ ID must only be specified for the personal H: drive. Other paths (e.g., G:) must be entered without a personal ID.]
  • Check the box next to "Other login information"
  • Enter username ADS\<LRZ ID>
  • Enter your password (the same as for AnyConnect and logging in to your work computer).
  • Check the box next to "Save login details."

Mount drive in macOS

  • Install eduVPN (from LRZ) and use it to connect to the university network (instructions for VPN client for Mac)
  • Under the “Go to” tab, select “connect to server” at the bottom.
  • Enter the path smb://nas.ads.mwn.de/<LRZ ID> in the server address field and click Connect.
  • Enter username ADS\<LRZ ID>
  • Enter your password (the same as for AnyConnect and logging in to your work computer).
  • Check the box next to "Save password in Keychain" if desired.
  • The network icon will then appear on the desktop.
  • If you want to permanently integrate the drive, open System Preferences, go to Users & Groups under the System group, and then click Login Items on the left. Here you can add programs that you want to open at startup. If you now drag the previously integrated network drive from the desktop into this window, the NAS drive will be integrated at startup.

This option works on any system. To do this, go to the website https://webdisk.ads.mwn.de/ and log in with your campus ID (e.g., Max.Mustermann@campus.lmu.de) and the corresponding password. You will find your personal network drive in the left column under your LRZ ID.
